The key to losing
If you want to truly nourish yourself with food but feel hopeless about doing so, you are exactly where I was 25 years ago. I know the frustration of dieting and failing. I know the shame of being large. I know the desperation of having health problems due to the way I was eating, and the complete inability to turn that around.
I kept seeking the perfect diet. I kept thinking there was something wrong with me.
I didn't know that the secret of successful weight loss is freedom from craving.
There are 2 kinds of craving: addictive and emotional.
When we eat foods we're addicted to, instead of satisfying us, they create a craving for more. For many of us, sugar and starches are addictive. For some of us, the complex carbs that break down into sugar are addictive. When we eliminate these foods, craving subsides, and we can eat well.
Diets didn't work for me because they contained foods that were addictive for me, making me hungry for more. I'd resist the craving for a while and then I'd binge. Eliminating these foods was my next step. With support I could do this. Eliminating addictive foods eliminated craving, weight, obsession and guilt, and it gave me a slim healthy body and peace between my meals.

Many of us turn uncomfortable feelings into hunger. We might not even know what the feeling is; suddenly we just want to eat. When I felt bad, I would get a craving that felt irresistible. Despite my intention to stick to my diet, and despite the consequences -- weight-gain and regret -- I would dive into the foods that made me feel better temporarily. I was an emotional eater. For me, the sugars, starches and large amounts of food took the edge off. Food was mood-altering.
